Lisa grew up in central Pennsylvania in an area known as Big Valley. Her love of animals brought her to Pittsburgh where she attended the Vet Tech Institute. In 2005, she graduated with an Associate's Degree in Specialized Technology and became a board certified veterinary technician. In 2009, she became a volunteer at Wildbird Recovery, a licensed wildlife rehabilitation center in Butler County where she assisted in the care, treatment, and release of orphaned and injured wild birds.

She was issued a Wildlife Capture and Transport permit by the Pennsylvania Game Commission that same year. In the summer of 2020, she joined Wildlife in Need PA as a capture and transport permit courier, transporting distressed wildlife to various rehabilitation centers.
