Glade Run Lake, Lake Road, Valencia, PA 16059
About the Event
Join National Aviary ornithologist, Bob Mulvihill, for an easy walk along the lake road and trails in search of birds. Bring your binoculars if you have them. Bob will have a few pairs he can lend out for the walk. He will show how to properly use binoculars, and he will teach his method for identifying birds.
In August evenings, you can expect to see and hear many resident nesting birds and even some early fall migrants. Birds are attracted to the lake and the varied terrestrial habitats all around it. A highlight in August is the large flocks of migrating swallows and swifts that skim back and forth over the lake for insects before going to roost for the night. In all, about 90 species of birds have been documented at Glade Run Lake in August, including herons, sandpipers, hawks, eagles, flycatchers, vireos, swallows, thrushes, warblers, and more!
All ages are welcome on this walk. Registration is not required to attend.
